How long do box braids stay? Protective hairstyles like large box braids are quite famous during warmer months, and it’s obvious why. You’ll become uneasy with the scent of your messy hair, so it is necessary to learn how to wash them properly. Thankfully, proper washing can deliver an instant cure to this dreaded issue. Keeping this popular style is less about washing your braids. Let’s hop in!

How Do You Wash Box Braids Without Ruining Them?

Washing your medium large box braids might seem intuitive, but a few extra measures are necessary to avoid ruining them with frizz, wearing, or lingering smells. Here is our step-by-step advice for washing box braids without destroying them.

  • Spray Your Roots: Hold a small spray bottle, fill it with about one to two inches of water, add a spray of your favorite shampoo and stir it about to mix. You should also absorb your hair in warm water before starting to shampoo. Once mixed, carefully spray the shampoo mixture on the regions between your braids directly onto your scalp braids. As you go, gently massage the shampoo into your scalp using the pads of your fingers (not your nails!). Pay alert to places with many build-ups, and don’t ignore your edges.
  • Rinse It Out: Next, jump up in the shower to rinse the shampoo! Provide that your scalp is completely covered with water before extracting the braids. Carefully push your braids out of the course to handle most of the water onto your scalp. After a few minutes, bend your head back under the water and allow it to run throughout your black hair braids, but don’t massage! Rubbing your scalp or braids while soaking will frizz when they dry. As lingering shampoo could cause dandruff or scalp irritation, get all the effects out.
